NewsPaper(less)

By Ronnel ‘Dinho’ Grant

Its hard to imagine journalism with out imagining the of churring of the printing press, the frantic reporters scurrying to typewriters or a conveyor belt carrying bundles of newspapers down a warehouse. That image of what news papers meant to journalism is slowly becoming a mere artifact in this world of information. Articles haven't simply just moved from print to the web, it hasn't been a simple shift in mediums, but instead an evolution.

In 2012, John Branch, published an article in The New York Times titled "Snow Fall." The multimedia feature went on to win the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing, along with a Peabody Award. The article was an early indication of journalism's technological transformation.

Branch wrote with such detailed writing, that  it would sculpt the image into the readers' imagination. And if that was not enough imagery then breath taking photographs will surely confirm the mental pictures take you have been developing.

A few years after Branch's article had been published, The Wall Street Journal fully embraced the new dimension of media that has been shifting journalism. The Wall Street Journal used a team of photographers, editors, producers and film makers to create a completely immersive news feature. While the project may be difficult to classify as a feature article or an documentary, it embodies all aspects of reporting and story telling.

Photographs, videos, graphics, audio and of course, the facts, all in one place. The Internet has provided a place for all news mediums to evolve synonymously. Regardless of these advancements, many may still argue that the state of journalism is gradually weakening. Journalism may be dying, but i have full confidence in a resurgence.
